Seems we need to upstream only DT DTR changes + add proper 
documentation for that.

the device tree additions now work (3.17-rc3).

What we are missing to really submit upstream:
1. bindings documentation
2. an accepted "DTR consumer", e.g. the w2sg0004 GPS 
module so that people see that it is really used/needed (which was 
the reason to throw it out from the kernel)

we now have a trs3386 tty slave driver which does almost the same, 
but in a more flexible way.
So we can drop this issue.
